Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort had proudly announced its successful completion of the Reef Rehabilitation Diving Course, making it the first and only resort in Phuket to achieve this prestigious certification. The training, conducted on March 4-5, 2025, had marked a significant milestone in marine conservation, reinforcing the resort’s dedication to coral restoration and sustainable ecosystem preservation.
This initiative had been spearheaded by the resort’s Marine Biological Center (MBC), under the leadership of Marine Biologists Marat Khaidarov and Chutharat Satecho, and Resort Experiences Manager Milos Zivkovic. The team had collaborated closely with specialists from Thailand’s Department of Marine and Coastal Resources (DMCR), including Chatchai Pucksachad and Itsaret Poungthong, to acquire expertise in coral restoration techniques.
Commitment to Coral Restoration and Marine Sustainability
The training had encompassed both theoretical and practical approaches to coral rehabilitation, with a strong focus on epoxy glue and brick base methods for underwater coral planting. These techniques had been recognized for their efficacy in reef restoration, allowing the Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort to play a proactive role in preserving marine biodiversity.
With this certification, the resort had set forth a strategic plan to further its conservation efforts, which included:
- Enhancing the House Reef by carefully restoring coral structures to revitalize the marine ecosystem.
- Establishing the Marine Biological Center as a regional leader in marine education, offering guests and the local community opportunities to engage in conservation activities and learn about marine ecosystems.
“Our mission is to create a sustainable marine environment and inspire guests, locals, and future generations through hands-on conservation initiatives,” said Marat Khaidarov, Marine Biologist at Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort. “By restoring the House Reef, we contribute not only to rebuilding marine ecosystems but also to protecting the coastline and ensuring the long-term sustainability of Phuket’s waters.“
Enhancing the Guest Experience Through Conservation
Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort had always been dedicated to offering unique and immersive travel experiences, and its marine conservation efforts had added a new dimension to guest engagement. Through the Marine Biological Center, visitors had been provided with opportunities to participate in reef restoration projects, snorkeling eco-tours, and interactive marine education sessions.
For divers, snorkelers, and marine enthusiasts, the newly restored House Reef had promised a vibrant and flourishing underwater ecosystem, making it a premier eco-tourism destination in Thailand.
A Sustainable Future for Phuket’s Coastal Ecosystem
This achievement had reaffirmed the resort’s commitment to sustainability, aligning with global efforts to combat coral degradation and marine habitat loss. As part of Thailand’s marine conservation strategy, Hyatt Regency Phuket Resort had set a benchmark for other hospitality establishments, demonstrating how luxury tourism and environmental stewardship could coexist.
By integrating marine conservation with guest experiences, the resort had reinforced the importance of sustainable tourism in protecting Thailand’s natural resources. Its efforts had been expected to encourage more hotels, resorts, and travel companies to invest in marine conservation programs, thereby strengthening Phuket’s position as a leader in responsible tourism.
