London City Airport has been reaccredited at the ‘Excellence’ level under the Mayor of London’s Good Work Standard, reaffirming its status as a leader in workplace excellence.
Launched in 2019, the Good Work Standard is a key initiative of the Mayor’s vision to establish London as the world’s leading city for employment excellence. Achieving the highest possible ‘Excellence’ level, London City Airport met the rigorous criteria across all four pillars of the Standard: fair pay and conditions, workplace wellbeing, skills and progression, and diversity and recruitment.
Michael Spiers, Chief People Officer, London City Airport, said: “We are delighted to be reaccredited at the ‘Excellence’ level of the Mayor of London’s Good Work Standard.
“We have a very diverse and talented group of staff at London City Airport and are constantly striving to create the best possible working environment for everyone, and this award is testament to that commitment”.
Since its initial accreditation in 2019, the airport has implemented several significant initiatives, including policies that promote pension savings, the Women’s Night Safety Charter, and the establishment of Diversity and Inclusion Champions.
The airport’s commitment to the local community also received recognition. This includes its annual ‘STEM in Aviation Day’ and the launch of an internship program in partnership with the University of East London (UEL). London City Airport was further commended for its policy of not using zero-hours contracts and its partnership with a Credit Union to enhance employees’ financial wellbeing.
Reaccreditation at the ‘Excellence’ level underscores London City Airport’s dedication to creating a supportive, inclusive, and progressive workplace. This commitment reflects the airport’s broader efforts to provide the best possible working environment for its employees.
The Mayor’s Good Work Standard establishes a benchmark for exemplary employment practices, promoting a fairer and more inclusive economy in London. By celebrating employers who exemplify best practices, the program encourages others to adopt similar approaches, fostering healthy, equitable, and diverse workplaces across various sectors, including retail, care, finance, media, and the creative industries.
Employers who join the Good Work Standard demonstrate their commitment to prioritizing their workforce’s wellbeing and contributing to an economy that works for all Londoners.
