The MTR Corporation’s recent launch of the “Experience a ‘Pandastic’ Journey on the MTR” has successfully incorporated the six members of the panda family—Ying Ying, Le Le, An An, Ke Ke, and the twin cubs known as “Elder Sister, Little Brother”—into Hong Kong’s public transport system, delighting commuters. This initiative will expand on January 11, 2025, with the MTR Corporation teaming up with the Hong Kong Tourism Board to feature the Panda Family on the Vibrant Express, operating on the High Speed Rail (HSR) line connecting Hong Kong to mainland China.
Passengers boarding at the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station for trips to Shenzhen or Guangzhou will get the chance to meet these endearing pandas up close on selected journeys. The Panda-themed HSR train is set to enhance travel experiences over a 12-week period, inviting those journeying through Hong Kong, Shenzhen, and Guangzhou to partake in this unique panda celebration.
The station itself mirrors this theme, decked out with festive panda decorations that set the stage for a captivating cross-border adventure. This effort is supported by collaborations with the Leisure, Sports and Tourism Bureau, the Hong Kong Tourism Board, and Ocean Park Hong Kong, utilizing the expansive railway network to effectively promote panda-related activities across various communities.
On the HSR line, the “Hong Kong Panda Special Train” boasts a full redesign featuring adorable panda motifs inside and out—from the exterior of the train to the windows, luggage racks, and doors, showcasing a variety of charming panda expressions. These pandas not only play the role of train captains but also act as promotional ambassadors. They pop up at numerous iconic spots across Hong Kong, guiding passengers to perfect photo opportunities. This special service operates between Hong Kong West Kowloon and stations like Guangzhounan, Shenzhenbei, and Futian on weekends and specific days from January 11 through April 4, with surprise appearances during weekdays on shorter routes.
At the Hong Kong West Kowloon Station, the complete panda family has taken over the B1 level Ticketing Concourse with delightful decorations that highlight local Hong Kong charm. Alongside Captain Go, a railway aficionado, they welcome travelers to this extraordinary journey.
“The beloved pandas are cherished by many. As the vital link connecting Hong Kong and the Mainland, the HSR’s role as surprise of “Come and Enjoy a ‘Pandastic’ MTR Ride” brings the panda-themed festivity to nearby cities, attracting travelers to experience an immersive journey in Hong Kong and promoting the tourism industry in the city,” said Ms Annie Leung, General Manager- Marketing and Customer Experience, MTR Corporation.
