Air India Express launches Kolkata to Hindon flights from March 1, becoming the first airline to operate jet aircraft from Hindon Airport, boosting regional travel.

New Kolkata-Hindon Route to Enhance Connectivity

Air India Express, a subsidiary of Air India and part of the Tata Group, is set to introduce direct flights between Kolkata and Hindon Airport in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, starting March 1. This strategic move aims to enhance regional connectivity and provide travelers with an alternative airport in the National Capital Region (NCR).

Flight Schedule and Frequency

The airline will operate daily flights from Kolkata to Hindon, while the return service from Hindon to Kolkata will run six days a week, excluding Saturdays. As per the schedule, flights will depart Kolkata at 7:10 AM and arrive at Hindon by 9:30 AM. The return leg will take off from Hindon at 5:20 PM, reaching Kolkata at 7:40 PM.

First Jet Engine Aircraft at Hindon Airport

With this launch, Air India Express will become the first carrier to operate jet engine aircraft from Hindon Airport, marking a significant milestone. Currently, only smaller regional airlines operate short-haul flights from Hindon. The introduction of these services will strengthen Air India Express’s presence in NCR, as the airline already operates from Indira Gandhi International Airport in Delhi.

Convenience for Travelers in Delhi-NCR and Beyond

Hindon Airport is poised to serve as a convenient alternative for passengers traveling from central and eastern Delhi, Noida, and nearby regions such as Akshardham, Anand Vihar, Connaught Place, Indirapuram, Chandni Chowk, and Vaishali. The expansion is expected to benefit commuters from western Uttar Pradesh and Uttarakhand, including cities like Meerut, Hapur, Saharanpur, Muzaffarnagar, Dehradun, and Haridwar, providing them with easier access to air travel.

Expansion Plans and International Prospects

Originally planned for an August 2024 launch, the Kolkata-Hindon route was postponed but is now on track for its March 1 debut. Additionally, Air India Express is looking to expand its network from Hindon by introducing flights to Bengaluru and Goa, operating six services per day to each destination.

Beyond domestic expansion, reports indicate that the airline is considering launching international flights from Kolkata to Kathmandu and Dhaka as part of its summer schedule.

Hindon Airport’s Role in Regional Aviation

Hindon Airport, operated by the Airports Authority of India (AAI), is a civil enclave within an Indian Air Force base, allowing civilian air traffic while also accommodating VIP and non-scheduled flights. The addition of new commercial flights is expected to further boost the airport’s role in regional air connectivity, making it a vital hub for domestic and potential international routes.

A New Phase for Hindon’s Commercial Aviation

With Air India Express leading the way in operating larger aircraft from Hindon, this expansion signals a new phase in the airport’s commercial aviation prospects, enhancing accessibility and convenience for travelers across multiple states.
